A partner, not another round
If you lead a science company, you have probably been told the path is obvious: raise a round, spend it, show progress, raise a larger round, and repeat. There is another path, and for many platform companies it is the stronger one.
The strongest next move is often not another equity raise. It is a co-development or out-licensing partnership with an established pharmaceutical company. The partner puts non-dilutive cash in your hands up front, then funds the program going forward, with further payments tied to development milestones and royalties on sales.
Why it matters. You stop selling equity to keep the lights on. A larger partner's regulatory, manufacturing, and commercial capability carries the asset forward, while you keep the company, the platform, and your share of the upside. The perpetual-raise cycle costs ownership every round and pulls the inventor off the work only they can do. A partnership can end it, and that is the trade more founders should weigh.
